Patient Itinerary for Surgery
Pre-Operative Instructions
Day prior to Surgery
Arrive in San Antonio, we recommend you arrange flight to arrive prior
to 2:00 pm CST. Stay in local hotel close to our office, airport and
Surgery Center. Pre Op visit with Dr. Nielson scheduled in the afternoon.
Pre Op Instructions / Day of Surgery
Nothing to eat or drink from midnight
night before surgery. Arrive at surgery center at the designated time
given to you. A blood test will be drawn the morning of surgery. Surgery
is performed and you will be discharged later the same day.
Chest x-ray performed before discharge. Pick up prescription for pain
medication at local pharmacy.
Day After Surgery
Post op exam in our office with
Dr. Nielson. No deep breathing, lifting or exercising for two weeks
following surgery. You may return to work or school in 2-3 days post
op. If cleared by Dr. Nielson you may return home later this day, with
flight to leave after 12 noon.
