TO TESTIMONIALS GATEWAY
Dear Dr. Nielson and
staff, (Lisa, Jane, and Cheryl),
On December 17, my daughter, (name) had Micro ETS surgery. I feel compelled
to write to tell you how it has changed her quality of life. Little things
that most people take for granted were so exciting for her during her break
from college for the holidays. She received a scrap book kit for Christmas.
Having been on a seven week trip to Florence over the summer, she was anxious
to put her pictures and memorabilia in a keepsake book. For hours at a
time on Christmas day and the days to follow, she worked with snipping
pictures, applying little stickers, writing captions and placing paper
borders on each page. Although this is not a remarkable feat for most young
women, it is for her. Before her surgery, she would only be able to work
on such a project for short periods of time, and even then, the out-come
would
not have been the same.
When (patient) was in preschool, she would get so upset because she could
not color in a coloring book without the page getting damp and wrinkled.
She loved art projects, but imagine cutting and placing colored tissue
paper on a page with wet hands. She ended up with color stained hands and
a wrinkled
project. She loved art classes, but got too frustrated with her problem
of constant sweaty hands. Imagine trying to hold onto pastels or put slippery
stained glass pieces in a picture with wet hands. She could hardly wrap
a package because she could not tear off scotch tape without the tape becoming
unusable. Other tasks little girls like to learn were very difficult for
her. Sewing, making friendship bracelets, braiding each others hair were
all awkward for her. Now think about playing Red Rover or learning to square
dance. Anything where you had to hold hands, even a circle prayer at Youth
group was embarrassing for her. She couldnt play the piano comfortably
and took violin lessons, but always was embarrassed about her hands.
Now move on to middle and high school. Dances and boyfriends. Playing tennis
and basketball. Besides the normal nervous reactions at this age, she also
had to worry about and explain to her friends her limitations caused by
sweaty hands.
On the way home from Texas, on the plane, (patient) could not believe how
her hands were. We had not even realized this was an entirely separate
problem from the sweating. We also are hoping that her sweating feet will
get better. She has felt that they have improved some. She called me at
work the second day after her surgery and said, Mom, I am walking
on our wood floor in bare feet, and not sliding.
I know these problems are minor compared to other serious illnesses and
disasters in the world, but I just wanted you to know that Micro ETS surgery
has impacted her life and made her much happier and more confident. She
has had the compensatory sweating on her back and stomach. hopefully that
will subside or be controlled another way. She will continue to submit
the follow-up surveys so you can pass on information and statistics to
others.
I left a message with the secretary of the doctor who had recently done
Botulinum Toxin treatment on (patient's) feet (which did not work), giving her your
name. The doctor called me back herself to ask for more information. If
he can refer someone else to you from Ohio, it would be great.
I want to mention that one of the side benefits, which was therapeutic,
was seeing all the other patients, many of them young men and women her
own age, who had the same problem. It is not something that comes up in
daily conversation. (Oh, I have hyperhidrosis, too.) Seeing
those same patients the next day and seeing their smiles, and actually
talking about all the different treatments they had tried and the problems
they had dealt with, (I hope this helps my athletes feet),
was like a mini support group right there in your office.
You and your staff made the whole procedure so simple. When we first found
out about it, I thought there was no way we could go to San Antonio for
treatment. But it was all worth it. The attention and thoroughness of your
entire staff, from every phone call and question answered to getting the
insurance information for us, and giving us a list of hotels with shuttle
service was incredible.
Thank you, all!!!
(Patient's mother)
To: Dr. David H Nielson
and staff,
Let me start by apologizing for the delay in returning the postop survey
sheet, I pretty much went on Christmas vacation after having the Micro
ETS surgery done and neglected to take the survey sheets with me. Sorry.
I am very pleased with the results of the Micro ETS surgery that Dr. Nielson
performed and can't thank him and his staff enough!!!!! I still can't believe
that I will never have to try to dodge another hand shake, or be afraid
to hold the hand of someone I care about. Dr. Nielson, you are a Saint.
It's been just over two weeks since I had the procedure done and I have
had no sweating of the palms at all. My feet still sweat every now and
then but I would say that the surgery corrected about 90% of the problem
with them.
On the down side, I seem to have developed what I would consider moderate
to moderately severe compensatory sweating in my chest, abdomen, back,
armpit and thigh areas. It takes almost nothing to get these areas started
and I'll sweat enough to have it show through a black sweatshirt. This
condition didn't really start happening until about the end of the first
postop week and it doesn't seem to be getting any lighter. Is this something
that will eventually go away or do I need to have something looked at here????
One thing I would suggest to tell anyone who has just had the procedure
done would be to avoid coughing like Dr. Nielson said and to never, never
get a case of the hiccups!! Boy did that hurt!!! Seriously though, I'm
tickled pink about the results and would suggest it to anyone who is looking
for relief from Hyperhidrosis, and I would with out a doubt recommend Dr.
NIELSON for the procedure. Once again, I can't thank the good Doctor enough
for what he has done for me, I only wish I had known about him and the
Micro ETS procedure sooner.
I look forward to hearing from you about the compensatory sweating I'm
experiencing and I promise to send in the other surveys on time next time!!
With deepest thanks,
(Patient)
Dr. Nielson,
I just wanted to sincerely thank you for all you have done. The
Micro ETS surgery was a great success and I'm so thankful to you and your
staff. I feel like I have a new toy. I went to the movies last night, and
for once, I enjoyed holding my girlfriend's hand without feeling insecure.
I want to shake people's hands now. I saw a group of guys I knew from high
school last night and I couldn't wait to shake their hands. You have already
changed my life in matter of a few days. I had no earthly idea it would
be so gratifying and immediate. I wish the best of luck to you both professionally
and personally. I will keep in touch and let you know how I am doing.
Thank you once again for giving me this wonderful gift.
(Patient)
Hi Dr. Nielson,
I just wanted to write a quick hi. I hope you have a wonderful time running
with the Olympic Torch. It will be such a wonderful experience. I
was so surprised when I found out you had been selected. What are
the odds! Anyway, it is another small thank you for what you did
for me. It was so thoughtful. I love having dry hands and I love
telling people about it, especially those who call from your office.
I love shaking people's hands now. Have fun and thanks again. Merry
Christmas to you and your family.
(Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson and Staff:
I have not yet taken the opportunity to express my gratitude towards all
of you. I have never been more satisfied and overjoyed with a decision
I made in my life. I had lived with the sweating my entire life and
was told basically to live with it. You made my dreams come true. I
never imagined I could have the confidence of shaking a client's hand
without seeing them later wipe it off on their pants.
My family and I were 110% satisfied with the service we received, not only
from you and your staff, but also from the hospital and their staff. We
would like to thank everyone for a wonderful experience that will last
my lifetime.
Again, I can't express to you enough my gratitude . . . . . THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
(Patient)
Hi Dr. Nielson,
I hope you are doing well. Enclosed is my 6 month follow-up sheet. Time
flies by so-o-o quickly. It seems as if I just had my Micro ETS surgery
done. Things are going really well with it and I havent had any
problems. My missionary (name) came home in August from his mission.
One of the very first things he noticed was that my hands were dry
when I held his hands.
Now I always want to hold his hands. I was so happy to hear that you were
selected to be one of the Olympic Torch runners. I am so happy for ya!
You or Cheryl will have to keep me posted on how it goes. It should be
a great experience.
Thank you Dr. Nielson for everything, I have told (boy friend) so-o-o much
about you!!!
Sincerely, (Patient)
P.S. Happy Halloween
Dear Jane and Dr Nielson,
I want to let you and Dr Nielson know that I am doing fantastic! It was
the best elective surgery I have ever had. I already feel much more
confident, and my husband can't believe how warm my hands are now.
He couldn't quite commenting about that the first day of the surgery.
I plan on monitoring my sixteen year old son to see if he could benefit
from this procedure as well.
Thank you both for everything. It was a pleasure to speak with both of
you, and to know that Dr Nielson offers a service to help so many people
who otherwise can feel very desperate and alone with this affliction. Again,
thank you for everything.
Sincerely,
(Patient)
Hi Cheryl and Dr Nielson,
I wanted to write and tell you what I did on Saturday. I had my first piano
recital!!! It was so much fun. My teacher has had them before but I
never did them because I knew my hands would be dripping with sweat.
So I always chose not to take part in them. but this year I was able
to play in the recital. It was so funny because before the recital
started my teacher was passing tissue to all the students for their
hands in case they were damp. However I was so happy when I told her
I wouldn't be needing one! I played 3 pieces and only made one minor
mistake at the very end. I am so grateful I was able to have the micro
ETS operation done. I just thought I would write and tell you about
it. Have a great day Cheryl and Dr Nielson.
Sincerely,
(Patient)
Dr Nielson, Jane, and staff,
Thank you so much for every thing you have done. You have made such a positive
change in my daughter's life.
Every day I marvel at the miracle you have performed. I feel so much happiness
when we can do things now like putting pictures in a photo album together.
And it was heart warming when she told me she went to a CD shop and picked
up or touched every CD and book in the store. She has never been able to
flip through books unless she planned to buy them.
Thank you for giving my daughter a new, wonderful life.
(Patient's mother)
Dr Nielson:
Ecstatic! That word best describes how I feel after the Micro ETS procedure
you performed (4/4/01). Words cannot express how deeply grateful I
am. The end result of this surgery improves the quality of life for
many individuals. (I have suffered from this for over 40 years. I was
surprised to learn that other people experience the same distressing
symptoms.)
I am so pleased with the results. A price cannot be placed on the physical
benefits as well as the relief from the associated emotional torment related
to this condition. Hyperhidrosis can emotionally and psychologically paralyze
a person in social situations. To be free of that is indescribable.
The night following my surgery I only slept 2 1/2 hours simply because
I was so elated with the results. Unless you have lived with this condition
- I don't think others can fully understand everything one was forced to
deal with in day to day activities. The onset could start anytime, anywhere,
without warning. So for the first time experiencing a warm, dry hand (without
the fear of instant sweating) feel like a miracle. It is such a pleasant,
welcome change.
David is Hebrew and means 'beloved, much loved, full of strength.' It is
not surprising how well it fits you. Dr Nielson, you are a godsend; the
answer to innumerable prayers from countless people. May God bless you
and the wonderful service you provide. Words cannot 'thank you' enough.
The results are nothing short of a miracle.
My results were outstanding? On a scale of 1 to 10 A(10 being the BEST)
- I would rate this an '11'! Seriously, no post-op pain. None. The greatest
gift - dry hands - for the first time in my life. The attention you provide,
the care and understanding are genuine. You and your staff are phenomenal.
God bless you.
With Deepest Gratitude.
(Patient)
Hey you guys . . .
Man I am loving my new hands!!! I think I am in denial still, since I carry
a napkin around every place I go. Sometimes I forget that I can wear
a certain color shirt and sandals at the same time. Before I would
always have to wear black shirt and socks. . . I love it, I love it,
I love it . . . . You all have changed my life so dramatically and
all I can say is thank you .
Dr. Nielson and your wonderful staff (Cheryl and Jane) were so very kind,
I can't thank you enough. I will definitely update you guys on everything,
since I get to start playing after the two weeks are up. Thank you much,
(Patient)
Dear Cheryl, Peggy and Dr. Nielson,
Hi! I received a phone call from a (prospective patient name)
tonight inquiring about my ETS surgery performed by Dr. Nielson in San
Antonio. He told me that he too had a previous surgery. He had a more invasive
surgery than what I had, he told me he had an "open thoracic sympathectomy" that
was done years ago by a military doctor. When he told me about this open
sympathectomy I just couldn't help but remember how if it hadn't been for
all of you and Dr. Nielson, I too would have probably consented to this
same very surgery. I am just so happy that I called your office. Who knows
what would have happened to me if I had decided to go ahead with this "surgery".
Well, we exchanged stories and I assured him that he had found the right
person to do this surgery and that he was in excellent hands! I do hope
he goes to San Antonio and has Dr. Nielson do the ETS. I hope that I was
able to clear up any doubts that he might have had about ETS. It sounds
like he has been through such a terrible and painful ordeal and I hope
I was of some help to him. I hope all is well with everyone there. If you
can, could you let me know how he makes out. I would really appreciate
it. Thanks! Best regards,
(Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson, Cheryl and
Peggy,
Hi! How are you all?
I just wanted to let you know that I received a phone call from (recent
Micro ETS patient). He is the man from (southeastern USA) that had a previous
sympathectomy done years ago while in the military. He had an open (dorsal)
sympathectomy that was extremely painful and took a very long time to recover
from and, after all that, was unsuccessful.
He also called me several months ago inquiring about Dr. Nielson and the
Micro ETS surgery that he was then considering having. I asked him to please
let me know how he made out.
Well, he has since had the Micro ETS surgery (as you are all well aware
of) and is very happy. He was totally impressed with Dr. Nielson and thrilled
with the results of the surgery. He said that he noticed immediately upon
awakening from surgery that the operation was successful because his hands
felt so "good". He said he was very grateful to Dr. Nielson and
happy he made the trip to San Antonio. I laughed with him and reminded
him how I had told him that he would not regret the trip to San Antonio
and that Dr. Nielson would certainly be worth it! We both agreed that Dr.
Nielson is truly an incredible doctor. He told me that this surgery has
already had such a positive impact on his life. He kept repeating to me
how he had lost the best twenty years of his life and that now he will
live life to its fullest and appreciate every day. It's funny, but I could
truly understand what he was saying. We both talked about how things could
have been different (and a lot less painful!) for us had we gone to Dr.
Nielson from the beginning. I told him that that was true but at least
we were fortunate enough to finally get to San Antonio and have Dr. Nielson
operate on us and put us back together again!
I was very happy to hear from him and I am so happy that things worked
out for him. He sounds like a kind and caring man that has been through
an awful lot because of hyperhidrosis.
Oh, last but not least. He also told me that he didn't have enough money
for the co-payment and that he was worried because he figured that he wouldn't
be able to have both sides done in one visit. He thought for sure that
he would have to come back at a later date to have the other side done.
He told me that Dr. Nielson told him that he would work something out and
that he wouldn't have to come back again. He was very thankful. He told
me that not only is Dr. Nielson an excellent surgeon but he is also a kind
and compassionate man. I just thought that was so very nice and thought
that Dr. Nielson should know how he touches lives.
Well, I have taken up enough of your time. Take care and be well.
Best regards,
(Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson,
Words can not describe how thankful I am for what you did for me. If it
truly hadn't been for your generosity and willingness to make financial
arrangements with me, the operation wouldn't have been possible. You
have changed and touched my life forever. I remember being a little
girl and thinking I would have this problem forever. I never imagined
one day receiving a treatment for it. I am excited to be able to go
home and attend church with confidence and not being embarrassed to
shake hands with people. I can't wait to go to dances with my friends
and have fun, along with many, many, more things. It was an honor to
meet you. Your smile and personality comforted me. Your generosity
has inspired me. I hope one day I too can help someone in need and
change their lives as you did mine. Thank you for your example and
thank you for everything! Sincerely,
(Patient)
Dr Nielson
Hi, my name is (patient) and I recently had your ETS surgery performed
on me. I am writing you to let you know that it was a complete success.
It has been a month now, and I do not sweat from my hands at all. Even
my underarms do no sweat as much as they used to. I have battled with
hyperhidrosis most of my life. Extremely sweaty hands have embarrassed
me and made my life very uncomfortable until now. I am a tennis coach
and a player and being able to hang on to the racket without worrying
about it slipping out of my hand has given me more confidence. For me
having dry hands is like a Christmas present every day. Most people take
it for granted, but I know what it was like to drive along and suddenly
have your hands break out into a soaking sweat. It made turning the steering
wheel troublesome. Once more, having dry hands has improved every aspect
of my life and I thank you for successfully performing the procedure
on me. Sincerely,
(Patient)
To the News Station In Houston,
I am responding to your segment about Dr. David Nielson's surgery to relieve
excessive sweating. I am very disappointed in the approach Pauline Chiou
took to present this segment. Obviously she didn't do her homework and
failed to find out exactly what she was talking about. This condition
is called hyperhidrosis. It not only involves the underarms (many times
does not), but it can also involve the hands, face and feet. The occurrence
of sweat due to this condition has NOTHING to do with exerting energy.
Miss Chiou made it sound like one sweats a lot when they move. Far from
true!! She also interviewed a gentleman who seems to have this problem,
but had no knowledge about Dr. Nielson. Hyperhidrosis exists all the
time in those suffering from this. That's the problem...it's uncontrollable.
Sitting under a fan will not stop this type of sweating. My daughter
is a patient of Dr. Nielson's. Until we found him, she was always hiding
her hands. They would always be wet. The procedure Dr. Nielson performs
is remarkable. There are other doctors who claim to do this sympathectomy,
but Dr. Nielson's approach does so little damage to the chest and lungs
with very little pain. If I were to need thoracic surgery, I would not
hesitate using this doctor. He is a people doctor. He concerns himself
about the patient and their well being. He has taken thoracic surgery
beyond what medical school teaches. The segment was a bit off base. Hopefully,
people suffering from this will be able to identify with something Miss
Chiou was attempting to report and call the toll free number for more
information. Please next time do some research before reporting about
something you know nothing about. I'll bet there is someone in your studio
suffering from this problem and could benefit from Dr. Nielson's surgery.
It is well worth the trip to San Antonio.
(Patient's mother)
Dear Dr. Nielson and staff,
My husband had his miracle performed by you on June 26th. He is 30 yrs.
old, and wishes that he would have had the surgery 20 years ago. Do you
remember when we left? I hugged you and cried, well, I haven't stopped
crying these tears of joy yet. Before the surgery Eric was on Robinul.
He was VERY moody and cranky all the time and I wasn't sure how much
longer we would stay married. He even ended up in the hospital several
times due to severe dehydration. I wanted him to stop taking it, but
being dry was very important to him. Well, Eric is a BRAND new person.
He has a BRAND NEW LIFE. The moodiness is ALL GONE!!!! He has so much
self confidence, he no longer walks around with his head down, avoiding
eye contact in case of the inevitable handshake. Whenever we go somewhere,
he is the first to stick his hand out. He loves to meet new people. Before
the surgery, I was the one always begging to hold his hand and due to
his embarrassment he would only hold my hand a short while. . . . now
he won't let go! On July 15th we had a large (over 50 people) 3rd birthday
party for our daughter. It seemed that every five minutes I had someone
coming up to me and asking what happened to Eric, everybody noticed the
DRAMATIC change in him. He is so confident and sure of himself. He was
the life of the party. I wish that every person who has HH (hyperhidrosis)
could walk in Eric's (dry!) shoes for one day. I guarantee that each
and every one of them would have the surgery done as fast as they could.
I hold you reponsible for bringing my old husband back. He is sweet again!!!!!
Words could never truely express how much we thank you. You are a blessing
to us and we appreciate you. Sincerely,
(Patient)
Dear Dr Nielson, Cheryl, and Peggy,
I can't believe it has been almost three months since my daughter's surgery
(Micro ETS). She is doing great! I have enclosed a copy of her first
modeling job, she made the cover plus some inside shots on several pages
inside. She is so excited about this. She is also in contact with some
of the agencies in New York she visited back at the first of September.
She said she loved being able to shake their hands with confidence. She
said a couple of agents commented on how nice and warm her hands were!
She is also doing great on the varsity tennis team. Her team is undefeated
this year so far and will probably go to state competitions. Her coach
tells me at every match what an asset she is to the team. She would not
be doing this if it weren't for your surgery. I've been talking to many
people around the country about hyperhidrosis and your surgery. I cannot
say enough good about all of you ( you and your staff). Our experience
with the surgery and with you personally, Dr. Nielson, was incredible!
We are so happy we had the surgery! Thank you again for bringing out
all the wonderful things my daughter can do. My daughter is trying out
for basketball and track too. Her modeling career is just beginning and
she is gong to start acting classes this winter. We have been very busy
since the surgery!!!! We will keep you informed of any other events.
Very truly yours,
(Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson,
Julie was sixteen at the time you did the Micro ETS on her. I had been
deeply disturbed for years because I knew that my daughter's sweating
hands were a source of deep embarrassment for her. She shyed away from
situations where she might have to shake hands. She had very few friends
because she kept to herself. I was skeptical when she showed me the research
that she had done to diagnose her problem and find you. As a computer
buff I was wary of doing this over the internet. I decided that her happiness
was worth the risk . . . . Any worries I had were all for nothing. My
dauthter had dry hands immediately after surgery. You were terrific and
a genuinely good person (you know the kind of person I would want for
a friend if I lived in San Antonio). As I choose my friends very carefully,
this is the best compliment I could ever render anyone. My daughter's
life has changed. She is no longer afraid of other people. She is doing
well and is very happy. My family thanks you from the bottom of our souls
and wish you and yours eternal happiness. Sincerely Yours,
(Father of patient)
